F12-SESSION 013 // The Dead Bolts

The Dead Bolts effortlessly blend the best of classic indie and alternative with the warmth and mood of great South Side blues inflected rock. They’ve been a steadily rising force ever since their semi-accidental formation in an Oak Lawn bar in 2018. Years of hard work and scrappy touring later, they're about to celebrate the release of their second album, Beau Monde at Chicago's legendary Thalia Hall.

After the session we were able to catch up with them about their writing process, their gear, life on the road, and their Chicago roots.

"just play with people more, just go out, go to open mic nights ... I was a bedroom guitarist for five or six years ... you think you're great until you actually, like, go to an open jam. you go to those for a couple weeks and you just really see your playing elevate." — benny mace

“When you're in the van have a good time. You should like to hang out with the band you're on the road with. if you're not gelling well maybe take a step back and assess, is it you?” — Eddie hennessy

“This is my favorite pedal I've ever owned, the Reverberation Machine [by Death By Audio]. I started using it for guitar because I like this really cool, dusty kind of distorted reverb... there are a lot of songs in Ganser where I use distorted vocals. It’s just a sound I’ve always wanted for vocals and it’s much more fun to perform as well.”
